Edinburgh Festival (hopefully)

I'm about to set out on a northern trip via Newcastle and Stirling, visiting friends along the way. If tightly timed trains permit (it's a big "if" at the moment) I'm hoping to coincide with an Edinburgh Festival recital by Steven Osborne on Monday ( 17th August in the Queen's Hall.)

Steven is one of three major pianists in the Festival performing programmes which commemorate Alfred Brendel. Although I don't myself recall hearing Brendel playing new music, I can definitely remember, on several occasions, seeing him in the audience to hear contemporary music played by others. He was altogether a most refreshing musician. And so, I'm delighted that Steven's Schubert programme will also include my own pieces Fragile and Chorale, for Steve, together with James McMillan's Lumen Christi.

UPDATE: Passing through Edinburgh in time for Steven Osborne's recital turned out to be yet another professional pipedream, thanks to big troubles on the East Coast Mainline, and no northbound trains during our travel day. Dagnabbit!
