Moon and Star

Given the, as ever, huge amount of detail in the new BBC Proms prospectus, I'll helpfully point out that my chorus and orchestra piece Moon and Star (1995) is going to be performed in a Prom on 29th July; a particularly interesting one, I would say, which will include a major new piece by Brett Dean sung by Claire Booth. It will also be televised (BBC Scottish/BBC Singers/Ryan Wigglesworth.)

The BBC invited me to "put this news on your socials" and "add your own music to our animated sting" so I hope this post will do. Just to underline one simple detail from their spiel; there are 86 concerts to come this summer. Imagine getting all that together in one "booklet"! What an amazing, incomparable festival this always is. I attended my first Prom in 1968, given by Pierre Boulez and the BBCSO, which included his own Le Marteau sans Maître, the Berg 3 Pieces op 6 and Stockhausen's Piano Piece X. Come to think of it, one of the most memorable concerts I have been to in the subsequent 58 years.
