Weir & Dove Organ Works

A milestone for me - my complete organ music has been released on Resonus Classics by Thomas Corns. My own six pieces (written over the last 40 years) are teamed up with three euphoric works for organ by Jonathan Dove - someone who actually plays the instrument and knows how it works.

These meticulous performances are beautifully registered on the Marcussen organ at Tonbridge School. I've visited the school in the past (pictured) to hear it. The school chapel burned down about 35 years ago, taking the former organ with it, and the question arose of how to replace it. With remarkable foresight (and available financial support) this amazing instrument was created for daily use in a school.

A final feature of this CD that immediately struck me is its exceptionally interesting and intelligent sleeve notes essay by Francis O'Gorman. On looking up this name unfamiliar to me, I learned with sadness that O'Gorman, a distinguished professor of English literature, died in April this year.  Resonus generously offer free access to the booklet here.
