Australia

After protracted attempts to travel twenty miles out of London on a Southeastern train (see previous post) my journey to South Australia, by comparison, flew by. I wouldn’t actually recommend a 2am departure from Dubai, but it did the job, and there I was in Adelaide. The effect of jet lag was major in this direction, but eventually emerging from slumber, and walking out of the businesslike grid of streets in the city centre, I was elated to see parkland in all directions, with trees and birds looking just completely different. Even a few yards out of a recognisably America-Asian-British urban environment I knew I’d crossed the world.

My attempts to photo any surprising Australian bird failed instantly, but I constantly filled my camera with plantscapes, since when choosing any representative image has proved impossible…
